Lawyers for Human Rights

BackgroundLawyers&nbsp;for&nbsp;Human&nbsp;Rights&nbsp;(LHR)’&nbsp;is&nbsp;an&nbsp;Ethiopian&nbsp;civil&nbsp;society&nbsp;organization&nbsp;re-registered&nbsp;on&nbsp;September 19, 2019 before the FDRE Civil Societies Organizations Agency in accordance&nbsp;with&nbsp;Proclamation&nbsp;No.&nbsp;1113/2019.&nbsp;The&nbsp;objectives&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Organization&nbsp;to&nbsp;promote&nbsp;and&nbsp;advocate human rights among others through increasing the participation and contribution&nbsp;of&nbsp;lawyers&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;area&nbsp;of&nbsp;human&nbsp;rights&nbsp;through&nbsp;trainings&nbsp;and&nbsp;other&nbsp;capacity&nbsp;building&nbsp;activities,&nbsp;supporting&nbsp;lawyers&nbsp;across&nbsp;the&nbsp;nation&nbsp;and&nbsp;help&nbsp;exchange&nbsp;of&nbsp;ideas,&nbsp;information&nbsp;and&nbsp;experience for better protection of human rights and prevalence of human rights; litigating&nbsp;before courts other relevant organs to ensure protection and promotion of human rights&nbsp;recognized under the FDRE Constitution and other laws; awareness creation for justice organs on international human rights instruments ratified by Ethiopia; providing free or low cost legal services for victims of human rights violation particularly disadvantaged communities; influencing the government to enact new laws or amend existing ones to give full protection for human rights; and familiarizing the idea of human rights defenders (HRD) among the lawyers.With a view of achieving these objectives, LHR has been building the capacities of lawyers, judges and CSOs on Strategic Human Rights Litigation (SHRL). Currently, LHR is implementing a project which involves making SHRL guideline of LHR user friendly and up to date of new developments in the conceptual and practical aspects of SHRL at national and international level. With a view of disseminating the guideline to different stakeholders, LHR intends to compile and publish the guideline in good quality standard. Accordingly, LHR is looking for a qualified consultant who will perform editing and layout works for the guideline.ObjectiveThe overall objective of the assignment is to edit, creatively design, do the layout work and&nbsp;provide the InDesign and camera-ready versions (both web and print versions) of a SHRL&nbsp;Guideline&nbsp;of LHR&nbsp;in&nbsp;a&nbsp;good&nbsp;quality&nbsp;standard.The&nbsp;scope&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;workThe&nbsp;scope&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;work of&nbsp;layout&nbsp;the editor&nbsp;among&nbsp;others,&nbsp;include:<ol><li>To&nbsp;edit,&nbsp;creatively&nbsp;design&nbsp;and&nbsp;perform&nbsp;layout&nbsp;work&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nbsp;60-&nbsp;80&nbsp;page&nbsp;of&nbsp;strategic&nbsp;human&nbsp;rights litigation guideline&nbsp;in such a way that external audience can easily understand&nbsp;and&nbsp;draw lessons&nbsp;from&nbsp;it.<ol><li>To&nbsp;Make&nbsp;sure&nbsp;are&nbsp;coherent and&nbsp;cohesive.</li><li>Rewrite&nbsp;the&nbsp;text,&nbsp;if&nbsp;necessary,&nbsp;to&nbsp;make&nbsp;it&nbsp;understandable&nbsp;by&nbsp;the&nbsp;readers.</li><li>Incorporate&nbsp;comments&nbsp;that&nbsp;will&nbsp;be&nbsp;forwarded&nbsp;by&nbsp;LHR.</li><li>Assist&nbsp;publication&nbsp;production</li><li>Determine&nbsp;index&nbsp;items&nbsp;and&nbsp;arrange&nbsp;them&nbsp;alphabetically&nbsp;or&nbsp;topically,&nbsp;indicating&nbsp;page&nbsp;or&nbsp;chapter&nbsp;location.</li></ol></li></ol>Deliverable&nbsp;and&nbsp;time&nbsp;frameworkThe Consultant is expected to deliver overall quality and standardize ready to publish.
