Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA)

Background: The Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA) is a non-partisan, non-governmental network organization established in 2003,&nbsp;and currently NEWA has 38 member local organizations and associations seeking to create a stronger advocacy voice for women’s advancement. NEWA has a twofold goal: synchronizing the individual activities of women’s associations into an integrated collective effort and synergy to realize their common aspirations for gender equality; and launching a vigorous public campaign of promotion, advocacy, and lobbying for empowering and redressing the needs, asks of the girls and young women (GYW), and the creation of space for this underprivileged section of society, and women’s rights, NEWA wants to achieve among others.NEWA With the support from the Malala Fund, NEWA is implementing a project entitled “Education Champion Network’.&nbsp;As one of the core activities of the project, NEWA organized consultative workshop with school girls to identify their asks and demands in ten regions and two city administrations. Though based on the consultative workshop reporting, NEWA is planned to compile the Ethiopian girls manifesto to make a decision for girls asks and to relevant governmental decision-making bodies as well as other non-governmental stakeholders so that they can receive attention, policy and legal response.&nbsp;The project scope is&nbsp;focuses on the Ethiopian school girls issue and compile their asks and demands to write up on girls manifesto. Therefore, NEWA expected the outcomes should compile the girls demands of each region and release Girls Manifesto. With this, the project is implementing in at the national level. The Girls Manifesto should carefully consider the girl's asks identified from each region in order to compile a manifesto. Girls Demands are found in the report of the consultative workshop held by NEWA in each region.
