<div>The Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) is a non-profit women&#39;s advocacy group founded by Ethiopian women lawyers. It was legally registered in 1995 and began operation in 1996. EWLA is headquartered in Addis Ababa and has six branches in Bahir Dar, Assosa, Hawassa, Adama/Nazareth, Diredawa and Gambella. The branch/regional offices are supported by 53 trained voluntary committee members organized at woreda and zonal levels; these offices provide structures to reach women at grass root level in Ethiopia.
EWLA&rsquo;s vision is to see a country where women are equal to men and articulates its mission as promoting the economic, political, social and legal rights of women and assist them to secure full protection of their rights under the Constitution of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and other international human rights conventions.&nbsp;</div>

The Association, to achieve its mission, works through three core programs:
Under its&nbsp;Legal Aid Program&nbsp;EWLA assists women, particularly disadvantaged women, who are victims of gender-based violence free of charge. The service includes legal advice/counseling, writing court briefs (court charges and affidavits) as well as representing clients in courts. &nbsp;
The second program,&nbsp;Public Education and Capacity Building Program&nbsp;works on raising awareness on women&#39;s rights. This program conducts training and advocacy workshops on the legal, social and political rights of women for students, government, and civil society organization (CSO) employees.
Through the third program,&nbsp;Research and Law Reform Advocacy, EWLA conducts various researches on women&#39;s rights issues and findings are used as a major resource for law reform advocacy and public education.&nbsp;</div>

Since its establishment, EWLA has been working to achieve this vision and mission. The legal aid services include legal counseling, court representation, writing pleadings to courts and letters on administrative issues to government organs, assisting clients to follow up their cases with government, police, and public prosecutor’s offices (for criminal cases), mediation and reconciliation, and referral linkages. Under the public education and capacity building program, EWLA provides different kinds of awareness creation training, seminars and workshops on women’s rights and Gender Based Violence (GBV) for law enforcement organs, people at the grass root level, including students and workers of different organizations, and stakeholders. Under the Research and Advocacy program, EWLA undertakes research projects that are often used as a basis for advocacy, legal reform, and related programs. This greatly helps to identify the root causes of gender discrimination, which in turn can dictate prevention efforts.The Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association, in partnership with the German Embassy, is implementing the project "Women, Peace, and Security: A Prerequisite for Sustainable Peace in the Horn of Africa." As part of this initiative, EWLA plans to organize a regional conference focused on gender equality and women's empowerment in the peacebuilding process and transitional justice implementation. Participants from East African countries—including Burundi, Djibouti, Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda and Ethiopia —will be invited to attend this event, scheduled for mid-November 2024. In total 60 participants.&nbsp;&nbsp;ObjectivesGeneral Objective of the Conference:<ul><li>To ensure increased and reinforced engagement among influential stakeholders on peace and security in the Horne of Africa to bring gender equality and women’s empowerment.</li></ul>Specific Objective of the Conference:<ul><li>To enhance the stakeholders’ engagements for gender quality and women’s empowerment, and peace and security.</li><li>To share knowledge, experience and learning among government and different stakeholders.</li><li>To design practical local remedy to resolve the peace instability in the horn of Africa.</li><li>East African civil society organizations are working on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) to build a movement.&nbsp;</li></ul>Deliverables for Event OrganizerThe event organizer will undertake a comprehensive range of responsibilities to ensure the successful execution of the conference. This includes weekly reports that highlight completed tasks, upcoming deadlines, and any challenges encountered.</li></ul>Venue Selection and Management<ul><li>Venue Identification and Securing: Identify and secure a suitable venue in Ethiopia that meets the specific needs of the conference in consultation with Ethiopian women’s lawyers’ association HR.</li><li>Facility Requirements: Ensure that the selected venue is equipped with essential facilities, including audiovisual equipment, adequate seating arrangements, and accessibility features for participants with disabilities.</li><li>Lunch and refreshments: Ensure that lunch and refreshments are included with the venue and ensure that these services are served on time.</li></ul>Logistics Coordination<ul><li>Travel Arrangements: Organize visa applications, travel, and accommodation for 23 regional participants from East Africa, ensuring a smooth arrival, in-town transportation and stay.</li><li>Local Transportation: Coordinate local transportation logistics to facilitate easy movement for participants from different regions of Ethiopia.&nbsp;</li></ul>Participant Engagement<ul><li>Welcoming process:&nbsp;Welcoming participants; guide them to the designated venue, providing clear directions and assistance as needed.
