BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee, one of the world’s largest humanitarian international NGOs, provides relief, rehabilitation and development support to vulnerable people and communities over 30 countries. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 in response to severe drought in Ethiopia’s Somali region and are currently providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions in Ethiopia, implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.
IRC is planning to undertake coordinated livelihood recovery and resilience building support for disaster affected households in Konso, Alle, Derashe woreda/zones of SNNPR. The main objective of the livelihoods' project is to improve the capacities of drought/conflict affected HHs, small holders’ women communities and their institutions to respond to and to reduce disaster risks proactively and to adapt to long term trends of food insecurity. This will be achieved through increased crop/livestock production and efficiency of smallholder farmers communities through the promotion and use of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) technologies and practices, diversification of livelihoods and disaster risk management.
The Livelihood manager is dedicated to the overall project management and implementation of programming crafted to provide beneficiaries with livelihood recovery for drought, conflict and COVID 19 pandemic households through promoting climate smart agriculture techniques, livelihoods diversification and disaster risk management.
