Solidaridad, Ethiopia is currently implementing initiatives in the cotton, textile, leather & coffee commodities in collaboration with the Ethiopian government and private sector partners & stakeholders.
Solidaridad established a country office in Ethiopia since November 2015 with registration # 3531. The office re-registered on July 11, 2019 under the CSO proclamation 1113/2019. Currently, Solidaridad, Ethiopia with other two consortium members have been undertaking EU funded project called LISEC-JOBS. The main objective of the project is to strengthen social cohesion by supporting local economic and social development initiatives, especially for women and youth living in Modjo area; and enhancing industrial and labour relations. Specific objectives of the project are: to improve skills and access to decent and green (self) employment opportunities for youth/women and nearby communities around leather industries, to improve capacities of tanneries and other leather actors in waste management and manufacturing practices and to improve social cohesion in Modjo and nearby communities.
In an effort of realizing the broader objective of the project initiatives, Solidaridad, Ethiopia is currently working towards strengthening the overall technical knowledge and understanding of the core project actors and beneficiaries on the theories, best practices and other elements and/or aspects of tannery solid waste management and it conversion in to valuable products. To this end, the project office in Ethiopia seeks to engage global renowned international research and/or academic (training) institution to carryout out detailed training needs assessment; and based on the assessment, develop a comprehensive training module on the management and utilization of tannery solid wastes; and conduct tailor made training of trainers (ToTs) so as to enhance the knowledge and skills of key industrial operators and leather processing experts, among others.
Needs and Objectives of the Present Assignment
The key objectives of the assignment under this terms of reference document are:
Based on the TNA report, the envisaged training service under this ToR is expected to cover the management of all possible tannery solid waste, and utilization of the same to re-use (recycle), which could be converted into valuable products. As to the mode of delivery, the training must be delivered as to focus on 75% practical and 25% theoretical aspects. Contents of the practical part must focus on the demonstration of technologies, showcasing the practices and technicalities of utilization of solid wastes to re-use, and contain all possible leather solid waste conversions into valuable products.
Besides, as has been highlighted in the outset itself, since the envisaged ToTs are meant to be conducted outside of Ethiopian - within the facility of the contending overseas international research and/or training institution; flight and daily per dium allowance expenses for all the trainees shall be covered by Solidaridad.
Scope of Work and Expected Outputs/Deliverables

The specific tasks for the contending Institution under this ToR shall include:
1. Undertake the research and analyse all the necessary documents/training modules, training materials to fully understand the ground situation and existing training materials and contents of the same available for training of tannery operators and leather manufacturing experts in the areas of solid waste management and utilization (including the existing curriculum and/or syllabus for Leather Manufacturing Technology (LMT) undergraduate (B.Sc.) program and other relevant training manuals and materials being used by LIDI and other relevant training institutions).
2. Carry out detailed “Gap” analysis to identify gaps in the trainings being imparted on solid waste management and utilization and assess the training needs, expectations and gaps of knowhow and skills of targeted beneficiaries from the industry and support institution (such as LIDI, ELIA, etc.). Carry out as part of the GAP analysis the Training Need Assessment (TNA) along with determining the possible outcomes (of the training) and devising the protocol for measuring the outcomes.
3. Assist Solidaridad project team in organizing and facilitating one TNA valedictory workshop session in Ethiopia.
4. Produce a well-written and comprehensive training needs assessment report based on the above, including recommendations for:
5. Based on this assessment, develop a comprehensive training module along with the Teaching, Training and Learning Material (TTLM); (with a specific focus on tannery solid management and it conversion in to valuable products).
6. Provide the draft module with key experts including governmental support Institutions and the project team for review; incorporate comments and finalize the module.
7. Organize and conduct one training program[1] for the trainers (ToTs), based at abroad within the training facility/site of the Institution- for one batch of totally five trainees; with a course/ training duration of four weeks (one month) per using the developed manual.
Based on the post-training evaluation result of the ToT-under this ToR document; the training institution may be also approached further to deliver the same ToT training (comprised of 5 fresh trainees) abroad as a second batch, with a new/separate service provision agreement signed and entered among the two parties (Solidaridad & the training institution).
The project seeks to identify overseas based international research and/or training institution that fulfil the above criteria and have demonstrated ability of involving key local project beneficiaries and stakeholders to fully understand the ground local context/situation and bring a wider perspective in accomplishing the envisaged assignments under this ToR document.
