1. Context of the mission
Médecins du Monde (MDM) is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) involved in humanitarian interventions, operating in Ethiopia since 1986 in different types of health projects from long-term interventions to emergency response.
In June 2017, MdM had conducted an exploratory mission in corridor AA- Djibouti, focused on the Afar part (zone 1) on Sex Work/GBV/SGBV for 3 years project under title: “Reducing SGBV against Sex Workers on AA to Djibouti Corridor focused in Afar region Zone 1. The project is implemented in collaboration with regional authorities and our local partner Nikat association are 2 NGO partnering with MdM in the implementation of the project.
Nikat Charitable Association is community-based NGO, first established in 2006 by FSW, registered since 2010, and based in Addis Ababa. It is composed of 200 women who are former and current FSW as members. The association is engaged in different health and income generating projects on advocating for universal access to health services, mainly HIV and sexual/reproductive health services, peer education and outreach service, advocacy for FSWs' rights, social marketing activities, information education and communication for behavioral change and fight against stigma and discriminations, fighting against GBV among FSWs, provide friendly services in DICs (during the day) primarily targeting Female sex workers (FSWs) working in hotels & bars, street FSW, waitresses and low income women. MdM – Nikat partnership is vital to engage FSW in different phases of the project for the successful implementation of planned activities.
Creating a safe space is one of the expected result areas through which safe space will be promoted to address various needs of the target group in the project area. DIC needs to be community centric and orientated to meet the project objectives. Drop-In Center(DIC) officer ensures that programming in the DIC is friendly, respect harm reduction/non-judgemental and gender sensitive approach, culturally relevant and it is in line with program aim and objectives. Under the supervision of the Program coordinator.
The officer will assist day to day operations of the DIC and actively support and supervise the outreach worker at all the project sites. This job description may be subjected to permanent modification following the evaluation of the activities.
2. Hierarchical & Functional links
DIC/Outreach officer will be based at Semera field office with a frequent travel to the project sites (Asayita, Dubti, Logia, Duchoto and Mille).
DIC/Outreach officer will work under the direct supervision, responsibility, and the authority of the Nikat team and technical link with Field coordinator in Semera and Medical coordinator in Addis Abeba.
DIC/Outreach officer technically supports and supervises project Outreach worker and Peer educators.
3. Essential Duties and responsibilities
Basic salary: 19,100.00 ETB, 30% hardship allowance plus 1,300.00 ETB transport allowance
Starting date: ASAP
Duty station: Semera, Logia
Contract duration: 6 months with the possibility of extension
