People don’t usually choose their career future (type of education they embark in higher educational institutes) carefully in Ethiopia as other countries do. Services that are taken for granted in other more developed countries like career advisors at high school level, don’t exist in developing countries like Ethiopia. The jobs that were able to make the best list are the ones whose demand was able to survive the falling economy of the. They revolved around inevitable industries whose demand doesn’t die down whatever the situation of the economy; they are mainly jobs that are based on health and information technology. The top five jobs are:

  1. Software Engineering
  2. Actuary (Financial Risk and Uncertainty Analysis)
  3. Human Resource Management
  4. Dental Hygienists
  5. Financial Planner

The above listed jobs have salaries that have grown by at least 1 % in 2012 even through the difficult financial time they are facing in addition to be constantly demanded.

The top five worst jobs of the year are, not only don’t satisfy the above criteria but also employ people with only high school diplomas contributing to the high unemployment rate of college graduates and thus rendering going to college unattractive. These jobs, since they pay a minimum wage, hire numerous amounts of people. The food industry is one of the most dominant industries in this category.

These top five jobs are:

  3. Enlisted Military Personnel
  4. Oil Rig Worker
  5. Newspaper Reporter

The above positions have shown no progress what so ever in the last year in terms of their payment prospect.
