VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
PROGRAM ASSISTANT
The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD), in collaboration with Light for the World (LFTW), is undertaking planning for a comprehensive, multi-sectoral, long-term (5-year) program in one pilot region of Ethiopia, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Regional State (SNNPRS). The program will assist Regional, Zonal and Woreda governmental entities, as well as disability and development NGOs, to prepare, implement and evaluate an integrated Master Plan to increase both mainstream and disability-specific service-delivery, and to remove barriers to the inclusion and participation of children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families in the Region.
The program will work with governmental organizations, NGOs and disabled persons’ organizations (DPOs) to create a comprehensive system for identifying persons with disabilities and to address systemic barriers to the provision of mainstream health, education, social services, skills training and work opportunities, as well as access to food, housing, transport and other public services available to non-disabled persons, in both the towns and rural communities of the Region.
To assist with program planning, including extensive consultations with stakeholders throughout the Region, a Program Assistant is required.
Description of Tasks
The ECDD Program Assistant will report to the ECDD Program Director and is responsible for assisting the preparation of the Master Plan. Specifically, the Program Assistant will:
1. Undertake a mapping exercise in order to identify all organizations, governmental and non-governmental, engaged in disability and rehabilitation service delivery, inclusive education and the vocational skills training and employment of persons with disabilities in SNNPRS.
2. Consult with local authorities and identify stakeholder organizations in the Region in order to present the Master Plan and seek their cooperation in its preparation.
3. Assist the organization of a Regional Stakeholders Consultation in cooperation with SNNPRS BOLSA.
4. Produce a Report of the Stakeholders meeting including major issues raised as well as suggestions made.
5. Undertake follow-up consultations with key Stakeholders in order to gather information for the Master Plan.
6. Participate in meetings of the Master Plan Advisory Committee.
7. Participate in the drafting of the Master Plan.
8. Prepare monthly and quarterly Progress Reports on the Master Plan activity and submit the Reports to SNNPRS BOLSA, LFTW and ECDD.
9. Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by the ECDD Program Director.
Qualifications:
1. Education – minimum BA degree in a social science field
2. Work experience – minimum 4 years
3. Previous experience with persons with disabilities desirable
4. Good interpersonal relationships in the workplace
5. Good communication skills
6. Competence in the use of computer applications
7. Good knowledge of English, spoken and written
8. Current resident of Hawassa
