The Office of the United Nations World Food Programme, Ethiopia, is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the following post:
Section/Unit: ICT Unit Contract Type/ Level: Service Contract – SC7 Post Duration: One Year (With possibility of extension)
The Senior Information Technology Assistant (Electrician) will be responsible for the following duties:
New installations and maintenance of the existing power supply modules/UPS systems in Ethiopia and repair of UPS systems.
Electrical cabling for radio rooms, server rooms, office and guest house facilities and warehousing throughout Ethiopia.
Installation and maintenance of the generators used by WFP Ethiopia (and other units if shared facilities).
In the offices without any infrastructure; plan and install electrical infrastructure needed for the office, including grounding and lightning protection.
In the offices with existing infrastructure; repairs of electrical infrastructure and planning of possible improvements.
Design and deploy lightning protection systems in WFP offices.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with statutory codes.
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
Guide, train and supervise staff maintaining inventory of material and/or database of information, such as, electrical related equipment, training material, etc.;
Guide, train and supervise staff maintaining logs or archives of information, such as generator related logs, trouble tickets, directories, reports, etc.;
Deploy and/or disseminate standard electrical hardware and/or software, applications, programs, training material, etc.;
Maintain systems and equipment by carrying out specialized tasks and supervising staff carrying out routine tasks, such as maintenance of electrical equipment, monitoring systems, UPS, Stabilizers, ACs and other electrical peripherals, running systems diagnostics, management and system optimization etc.;
Monitor electrical systems and their applications;
Resolve a variety of problems and/or assist in resolution of problems by identifying and forwarding recommendations to the Head of ICT Unit or designate;
Maintain electronic documents, statistical databases; maintain electrical procedures and provide support to all; Train and support users of electrical systems, such as generators, UPS, Stabilizers, AC, water heaters, etc.;
Evaluate, develop, recommend procedures. Participates in discussions one new/revised procedures and practices; interprets and assesses the impact of changes and makes recommendations on follow up actions;
Recommends green solutions; prepares BOM for all electrical equipment and their peripherals;
Supervises electricians at Country Office as well as at Sub-Offices;
Besides technical responsibilities, the ICT electrician will perform the following tasks: Project Management for Electrical Projects; Implement Electrical Standards for ICT Ethiopia; Provide weekly reports on activities to ICT office; Perform other related duties as required to support the installation work; Provides accurate reports of maintenance and repairs to all systems.
Expected Results: Well managed and supervised support staff in a country office and sub-offices; timely administrative support in general and specialized areas.

Ability to work with minimum of supervision; to supervise and train support staff; and to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Good administrative and supervisory skills; ability to plan and organize work and to train and motivate support and administrative staff in a country office.
Job Requirement
Education: Education and training to diploma level in electrical installation and maintenance in addition to secondary school education.
Experience: Certified Licensed Electrician, to diploma standard, with a minimum of 10 years progressive experience in a similar role or responsible job-related experience in management of electrical systems, and at least one year at the G6 level or equivalent, preferably with international organizations. Some experience in client support, such as, a Help Desk or User Support Unit. Experienced in power transfer systems and power generation using diesel, solar and wind powered equipment; experienced in cold and resin jointing procedures; conversant with IEC requirements for electrical installations:
Knowledge: Training and/or experience utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing human resources administration. Specialized knowledge of electrical Generators, UPS, Stabilizers and peripherals.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
Desirable Skills: An ability to work to the required WFP site behaviors - including demonstrating effective commitment, engagement and accountability competencies as required within the role; an ability to resolve problems quickly with a flexible attitude towards work; the post holder must assume personal responsibility to ‘close-out/attend to’ actions; ability to read and understand complex schematic drawings, in addition to the ability to fault find using manufacturer’s manuals and drawings; good mechanical skills; ability to work unsupervised.
