The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the world’s leading organization working for the rights of children, is inviting applications for the above position.
PURPOSE OF THE POST Accountable for formulation, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of Child Protection – Child Justice and Birth Registration programme(s) to ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the programme management, delivery and accomplishment of programme goals and objectives.
Promotes intersectoral partnerships leading to responsive child protection systems build on the strengths of issue-specific programming; and which addresses specific forms of vulnerability.Contributes to synergize the work of United Nations agencies to achieve child justice and birth registration results, including in humanitarian actions, working closely with the Child Proctection Sub-cluster within the inter-agency standing committee (IASC) mechanism.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POST INCLUDE: 1. Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and collaboration to the Situation Analysis and its periodic update made for effective programme planning, development and management. Partnership with knowledge and academic institutions expanded for collection and analysis of relevant data to further understanding of issues related to justice for children and birth registration
2. UNICEF’s global goals effectively promoted through advocacy and policy dialogue with the sectors responsible for Child Justice and birth registration partnering in particular to facilitate understanding of the importance of child justice and Birth Registration by all stakeholders, and its inclusion in national governance and reforms mechanisms, development planning and investment frameworks.
3. Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key Child Justice sectoral programme documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and knowledge/information exchange with all partners, harnessing knowledge institutions resources and partnerships.
4. Quality of rights-based Child Justice and Birth Registration programmes effectively promoted. Coherence and synergy gained by collaborating with key partners, addressing the multiple aspects of the protective environment, and value added to programme management process through results based management. Gender and Sex aggregated data and inputs relevant to Child Protection programme provided.
5. Sectoral work plan and activities formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined programme strategies and approaches, partnering with community-based child protection networks that monitor child rights and child exploitation.
6. Programme delivery, evaluation and reporting carried out efficiently, rigorously and transparently in compliance with the established guidelines and procedures.
7. Proper and timely UNICEF, Government and all implementing partners’ accountability ensured regarding supply and non-supply assistance as well as disbursement of programme funds for the Child Justice and Birth Registration sector.
8. Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration; Coordination amongst child Justice and Birth Registration systems actors strengthened, with specific attention to Children’s life skills, knowledge and participation, as actors in their own protection; Engagement of media and civil society to supporting positive practices and involvement of children and families; ensured dialogue with private sector expanded, to emphasize good practices and corporate social responsibility.
Job Requirement
Education: Advanced university degree, preferably in the social sciences, law or other relevant field.
Work Experience: Eight years (NOD) of professional work experience at national and international levels in child protection, including international work experience for IP or field work experience for NO.
Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and a second UN language; Local working language of the duty station an asset.
Nationality: Candidates should be NATIONALS of Ethiopia.
