General Assignment: The purpose of the position is to facilitate the implementation of agricultural activities by collecting and disseminating information and linking with the communities.
Responsibility: 1: Facilitate food security activities in the selected villages.
Conduct Semi structured interviews, FGD, and/or collecting data through questionnaires;
Sensitize communities about the program objectives and strategy (what we are going to do and how we are going to do);
Organize regular community meeting and facilitate the meeting jointly with government line department;
Conduct local level food security information assessment with the local communities;
Facilitate the exchange /experiences visit among the communities;
Conduct different dialogues and FGD to plan with the community;
Identify local priorities needs in line with the project objectives and goal ; Collect data for the identification of community needs;
Facilitate development of kebele level joint planning in collaboration with the local community and government line department;
Documentation of the planning process in the Kebele; Weekly reports updating activities, issues and progress reports to officers.
2: Conduct Sensitization at local Level on Food security intervention and strategies.
Reach out community members to highlight the importance of collective planning;
Ensure that every member in the community is aware of the ACF’s food security activities & strategies;
Ensure that the right approach like adult education is applied while approaching community. He/She make school without walls;
Disseminate with the community the results of food security assessment needs;
Dissemination of the community plan in the community;
Liaise with local/kebele level organisation;
Dissemination/socialization of the plan in the village;
Propose learning sites for exposure visit and experience sharing on food security.
3: Conduct food security and agriculture related Training for local communities & Empower target communities using participation learning techniques.
Training and building the capacity of target communities;
In collaborating with kebele level partners, facilitate the identification community felt needs;
Identification of training participants;
Support on training preparation;
Organise/Conduct the training at decentralized place (in village level);
Relates food security intervention with comprehensive/multidimensional agriculture intervention.
4: Support the community in the implementation of food security and related activities & work with community on their current development agendas.
Assist the community in the implementation of food and livelihood activities;
Assess the needs for external support in the implementing food and livelihood activities;
Identify limiting factors for the communities in the implementing of agricultural and food security activities & identify the limiting factors of their area developed program.
5: Monitor the field activities done with community & other partners.
Arrange meetings days and time with the community leaders;
Identify the capacity of community members & selected co-facilitator and provide on job training;
Compile reports from actual filed work and send comprehensive summaries to officers;
Disseminate information as required to other development agents /facilitators of the village;
Project Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension
Qualifications/Skills
Level of Studies: Diploma in General Agriculture, Community Development, Rural Development and Family Science (RDFS), and Animal Science and Range Land Management and other related subjects from a recognized university/college, with 2 to 3 year of related work experience, as community facilitator or community development agent and similar capacity, experience in international NGO is advantageous.
Required skills: good communication skills; team work and organizational skills; problem solving and conflict management skills; gender and culture sensitivity; good knowledge of English languages (Speaking & writing); good knowledge of Sidama Language, report writing skills; Willingness and enthusiasm for working with rural and vulnerable communities in the proposed intervention areas.
