JOB SUMMARY:
The Guradamole Health and Nutrition Officer will be responsible for coordinating and supporting the effective implementation of quality health and nutrition programming in Guradamole woreda of Bale Zone, grounded in best practice in response to acute and longer-term health and nutrition needs. The Health and Nutrition Officer will supervise the Nutrition Nurse and work appropriately with personnel in the woreda to ensure general supervision and full engagement with the Woreda Health Offices and other related partners in the woreda. The main achievements expected out this role are effective implementation of resilience health and nutrition interventions and coordination of daily activities related to the programme with the Woreda Health Office, Health Facilities and other authorities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure timely and quality implementation of field activities:
Support community outreach activities, regarding PHC, CMAM, IYCF and related BCC activities. Work closely with HEWs/CHVs/HDAs, conduct on job training as required and provide essential supplies and IEC materials.
Ensure the storage, preparation and distribution of Supplementary Feeding food supplies within Legehida woreda.
Conduct monthly supportive supervision to supported PHC and CMAM sites; and support the Woreda Health and Nutrition nurse of SC to conduct his/her daily site support activities.
Regularly support and mentor the Health and Nutrition Nurse in project routine activities and ensure performance management with clear set performance objectives and activities.
Conduct joint assessments in order to support the continued development and implementation of the Health Facility Strengthening Plan, and establish prioritised areas of support.
Work closely with health partners to support health and nutrition system strengthening:
Regularly organize, undertake and represent SC in coordination meetings and working groups at woreda level and coordinate Committees as necessary. Ensure the PMT is briefed on the outcomes of these meetings through the PMC or via PMO.

Work with partners in the woreda to develop and strengthen referral linkages, and ensure its coordination and effectiveness.
As per the training schedule, organize and conduct woreda-based trainings for CHVs/HDAs.
Assist the Woreda in supply chain management & ensure the effective donation of essential supplies.
Closely work with the Woreda Health Office in PHEM and contingency planning for the identified emergency prone diseases and support contingency planning. Facilitate EPI and BCC campaigns and mass nutrition screening in the woredas.
Coordinate the establishment of Woreda & Community Health Committees; and work closely based on the agreed “Terms of Reference”; and regularly undertake coordination meetings at woreda level.
Coordinate with Woreda and Kebeles in the establishment of mothers’ support groups; work and support these community based groups through capacity building, and provision of essential supplies.
Facilitate the establishment of community funds, by working closely with the Woreda Health Committees and monitor its effectiveness.
Monitor and report activities and results, taking lead in identifying challenges and opportunities:
Prepare monthly reports of the woreda in collaboration on project activities and submit to PMC/PMO with clear actions and support required.
On a weekly basis, meet with the PMO to discuss project implementation progress in the woreda, identify and address challenges; communicate in a minute form all such meetings to the PMC and PMT and seek further support as and when required from the PMT.
Be responsible for the distribution of relevant guidelines, protocols and formats for each supported site; and in close collaboration with the HMIS Officer to effectively collect quality health and nutrition data and good based practice reports on regular basis to be submitted to project coordination office, with basic analysis done together with the woreda Health Office authorities.
Conduct regular and ongoing analysis of health and nutrition situation of beneficiaries and the community.
Conduct regular patient exit interviews and collect and document relevant information the interviews.
Immediately report any health emergency events within the woreda or safety and security incidents. Clearly document effects, impact and life threatening concerns of such occurrences.
Perform any other duties as assigned by Bale Project Management Team or Project Medical Coordinator and/or Project Medical Officer.
Job Requirement
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED To be considered for the post, applicants must have Degree in Public Health, Nursing/ or Nutrition and At least three years relevant experience in the health field and good knowledge of CMAM activities. S/he is expected to have good command in written and spoken English ,Afan Oromo and Amharic. Respect of Save the Children rules and policies and willingness to work in extreme pressure and in remote and stressful work environments.
