Dialogue Initiative for Ethiopian Youth on
Governance, Democracy & Peace
Introduction
The Forum of Federations is an international learning organization, based in Canada, working on federal and devolved governance across the globe. The Forum has been legally established in Ethiopia since 2008 as an international organization registered under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Strengthening Federal Governance and Pluralism in Ethiopia is a five-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) being implemented by the Forum of Federations in close cooperation with various Ethiopian partners led by the House of Federation. The project’s ultimate outcome is to contribute to a strengthened and more responsive federal system for Ethiopian men and women.
One of the project’s initiatives is to increase the capacity of youth leaders to facilitate open, inclusive dialogue and engagement by the nation’s youth on key issues of governance, democracy and peace in the country under the suddenly more open but tumultuous political environment, and how these issues relate to their constitutional rights and gender equality.
The initiative expects to work with strategic partners in Ethiopia to develop, design and pilot a youth dialogue program on issues of governance, democracy and peace from youth and young leaders’ perspectives. This will include design of the content/issues, training youth leaders on their prioritized issues as well as dialogue skills, and piloting the model with different groups of youth leaders.
