LI WAY Action Research on Job Fair in Addis Ababa
Mercy Corps is non-profit International NGO implementing different humanitarian Projects over 40 countries with headquarters in Europe and US. Currently, Mercy Corps in partnership with other Organizations is implementing Livelihood Improvement for Women and Youth (Li-WAY) project in Addis Ababa. The aim of the program is to contribute to sustainable poverty reduction by improving the income of 200,000 poor people of which at least 50% are women and 75% youth/within the age group of 15-35/ living in Addis Ababa.
LI WAY Project focuses on labour sector constraints that obstructs the proper efficient and effective employment matching services especially for those job seekers who have only primary and secondary education. Researches and assessments conducted by external consultant and the internal staff shows that there is mismatch of job demand and supply in the labour market mainly for the non-graduate job seekers mentioned above. More appropriate exchange infrastructure can allow job matching services to work more effectively. For this reason, LI WAY Program will facilitate Action Research on Job Fair by identifying current demand from potential employers to match with low to medium skilled job seekers. Then identifying a working business model that is scalable and sustainable through an actual field test research is expected. The action research will cover developing the research design, conduct the action research of job matching through job fairs, test the findings of action research on the job fair, capture the lessons and provide strong recommendations for future modalities that have a potential for scale and sustainability.
The ultimate aim of conducting the action research on job fair is to test the business model. As a result, we will understand the modality on how job fairs could be more effective and efficient as one of the job matching options for low to medium skilled job seekers in sustainable and scalable manner. Therefore, Mercy Corps seeks competent Private sector partner having an experience on job/career fair event organization coupled with a strong research expertise in labour market and/or human resource development area to conduct the action research on job fair.
